2003 Volkswagen Jetta GLX VR6 4dr Sedan (2.8L 6cyl 5A)
Review
The V6 in this car is amazing, it picks up and goes so fast. I just can't say enough good things about this car- driving, handling, comfort, and the very tiny blindspot. The changed the body style for 2005, I must say that this style is, in my opinion, the best. All in all, its great.

My wife and I have loved this car from day one. I think sometimes this car gets a bad rap but I think the build quality is just fine. We have 16,000 miles on the car and not a single problem.
Favorite Features
heated seats, monsoon sound

My father told me VW was the Nazi's revenge, but I disagree. I have had my 2003 since september 2003 and have put 29,000 miles on it so far. Gas mileage is great - I drive 60+ miles a day and I love it. It has been in the shop 2 times for minor warranty work (rear wiper pump never worked, and brake rotors were warped from factory?). I recently took it into my dealer for a 20,000 mile check up and they replaced the computer, fuel throttle and fuel pump due to a major malfunction. Each time my dealer has given me a loaner free of charge and they have taken care of the problem quickly. I will by a VW again. I LOVE MY CAR!!!

I had bought this car thinking that it was going to be the greatest thing. Engine is perfect, handling is so so, but the reliability is pathetic. I have had for 1 1/2 years and have had it in service 11 times.

I love my car. Before buying, I test drove more expensive cars (Saab, Audi, Acura), but the Jetta just fit really well. I haven't regretted my purchase a bit, and I saved thousands to boot. It's been a blast to drive. It really begs to be driven hard and I indulge that as much as possible. It accelarates quickly and the turbo kicks in at low RPMs to give you instant power - no turbo lag at all. Get the sport package and a stick to fully appreciate it.
Favorite Features
Engine, 17 inch rims, tasteful styling and interior.
Suggested Improvements
I'm probably in the minority here, but I would like the suspension tightened up a bit more for slightly less body roll - although you can do that aftermarket fairly cheap. Although it still handles very well, and I'm probably driving it much harder than I should.

I LOVE my TDI wagon! It is zippy and gets 50 mpg. I have never had a mechanical problem with it. We use biodiesel fuel and reduce our emissions considerably, making it an environmentally sound choice. I feel very safe driving it with the extra airbags and safety features. Would buy it again in an instant and intend to keep it for years to come.
Favorite Features
50 mpg! Heated seats and moon roof.
Suggested Improvements
Can't think of any, unless you want to fit more adults in the back seat- the legroom is great for the kids and we are both petite adults, but it would be tight if you had 3 large people back there.
don't buy this car

After purchasing this car and having NOTHING but major problems with it, I started doing research on Volkswagen and found these are probably the most unreliable cars on the market. Almost every review i've seen has nothing but negative things to say about them, yet Edmunds and CR recommends them?? WHAT'S GOING ON?!?!?!?! Not only are they made in Mexico, but the have one of the worst warranties on the market and follow up service is a JOKE. Good luck getting VW of America to listen also, they really don't care. PLEASE do your research and use your brain!!! these cars are all lemons and that's a fact. Dont' take the chance like I did, you WILL be sorry

The seats are really comfortable. The styling makes it one of the most attractive cars on the market in my opinion. The cars gives an initial feel of high quality, everything fits together and is really pleasing to the eye. The safety features are a nice touch.
Suggested Improvements
The car works perfect for about 6 months, then everything from the windows to the engine starts to fail. Follow up service is a joke and VWoA won't listen. Useless warranty, keys are 300 bucks to replace, supposedley cheap to own but already out over 1500 on repairs, you get the idea

The GLI offers a lot in a small package.Sporty and fun to drive. Car is tight on the turns and loves to be pushed. Car feels stable at high speeds and is up to almost any task. I have 14k miles and after some early monsoon radio issues I havent had a prob in 10k miles.18 MPG in the city 25 on the highway-bit low for a car in this class. If i had to do it again I would get the leather package (cloth attracts hair) . All in all a good car that is fun to drive but beware this is no Honda Accord
