2007 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Road Test Ratings

Elegance and a soft, quiet ride are near the top of the class. The addition of an optional V8 furthers the performance driving experience.

Handling is composed and secure in many situations, but not a threat to BMW. Engine choices include a 3.0-liter turbodiesel and several gasoline engines, which make the E550 the quickest car in its class. Around town the 7-speed automatic is always in the right gear.

The interior is inviting and spacious with generous seat adjustment ranges. It rides a bit softer and quieter than its competitors. Pedal placement, wheel size and shifter position are exceptional.

The audio system is hard to use. Other controls are well-located and look great, but don't break any new ground.

The interior is graceful and well-appointed. The exterior proportions and detailing are elegant and upscale. Revised side mirrors, restyled wheels, new bumper covers and restyled headlamps give the 2007 E550 a fresh look.
