Got Transmission?
Vehicle
2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E500 4MATIC 4dr Sedan AWD (5.0L 8cyl 5A)
Review
I am compelled to write a review on this car after a year and a half of ownership because it has been a series of non-stop transmission problems which Mercedez cannot seem to fix. I do not know if they have fixed the 2007 model but you really need to thoroughly test-drive this car and ask around. Also, the back tires needed replacement after just 20,000 miles which seemed a little too soon. This car also has a totally unusable cup holder, something you think is just a small thing but turns out to be huge for us commuters. I am thoroughly disappointed in my $70,000 purchase and wish I had stayed with a Lexus, a car I thoroughly enjoyed for ten years.
Favorite Features
Beautiful exterior design. The dynamic seat features are also fun except that they automatically turn off after a little while so on long drives, you need to keep turning them back on. Big trunk is a plus.
Suggested Improvements
As stated, this car has been a steady diet of transmission problems. The cup holder is also poorly designed.
So far so good

2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E320 CDI 4dr Sedan (3.2L 6cyl Turbodiesel 5A)
Review
Traded an '03 E320 for this '06 E320 CDI. The diesel is so quiet you don't know it's there. Plenty of power and lots of nice features like nav system and Harmon-Kardon radio, rear sunshade. Better cupholder/center console layout than the '03. Only had it for two weeks but well pleased thus far.
Favorite Features
Fuel economy. Better than a lot of hybrids, with much more power. Range on a tank of fuel is over 700 miles. Solid overall construction and first class safety features.
Suggested Improvements
Bring back the maintenance coverage during the warranty period. First service (oil and filter change, tire rotation and some visual inspections) was $ 329. Nav system is somewhat complicated.

After 15 months of driving this car, and at least 10 trips to the dealer for repairs for electrical, leaks etc. in the last 10 months I am going to sell it and get another Lexus. The electrics are horrible, and it takes 2 weeks to get the gaskets from Germany for the oil leaks. Buyer beware

Handling, and economy on long trips

Best in 45 years
Vehicle
2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E320 CDI 4dr Sedan (3.2L 6cyl Turbodiesel 5A)
Review
I have a 1998 E300 Turbodiesel and it was the best overall vehicle I have ever had until I purchased a 2006 E320 Turbodiesel. The 2006 gets 15% to 20% better mileage, and it has 20% more performance. The lighting is superior, the Nav system works well, and the ride and handling are better than any vehicle I have owned. Mileage is 37 to 40 mpg at 70mph, and 33 to 35 mpg at 75 mpg.
Favorite Features
Performance and mileage
Suggested Improvements
Nav placed higher in dash like S class.

Wish I agreed
Vehicle
2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 4MATIC 4dr Sedan AWD (3.5L 6cyl 5A)
Review
Sorry to say I can't agree with most of the E350-4M reviews. It has been back to the dealer 10 times mostly for electrical problems (oil level message, ESP/cruise failure but also incl 2 recalls). Nice ride, good fuel mi (27 hwy) and good performance but the reliability has been a nightmare. This was always my "one day I'll have a MB" - didn't do my normal comparison testing and am paying for it. If you want further quantification just check out the resale - dropped from $57k new to $37k in 14 mos!!

Improve reliability - it's killing resale

Have lost confidence in car and dealer
Vehicle
2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 7A)
Review
Great car, except for electrical problems. Because the repair was not scheduled in advance, the dealer kept the car 1 week for repairs. I picked up the car and drove it three blocks from the dealer and the same electrical problems, lights and cruise control, ESP lights were back on showing, see the workshop for repairs. The car stayed at the dealer for 1 more week before it was fixed. I have driven it 500 miles and everything seems to be OK. I know my confidence in the car is not what it was two months ago. Not sure if I will ever purchase another Mercedes Benz.

Great looking car!

Mercedes needs to work at fixing the reliablity problems. Dealer should be able to repair the car in less than 15 days.

Beware of the E Class Defroster
Vehicle
2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E320 CDI 4dr Sedan (3.2L 6cyl Turbodiesel 5A)
Review
The E Class defroster has no adjustment. Full temperature only on the windshield and interior of car. Makes for an oven when on. Doesn't cut off automatically. Had I known this, I would not have bought a $55K Mercedes.
Favorite Features
Suggested Improvements
Defroster is a joke on a $55K car. Yet to achieve 37 MPG.

Best Sedan
Vehicle
2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E320 CDI 4dr Sedan (3.2L 6cyl Turbodiesel 5A)
Review
This absolutely the best driving sedan I have ever purchased. The CDI is a awsome engine. On highway driving 85mph, I am still getting 35mpg, and in the city I am getting 24mpg, but again I have a lead foot!
Favorite Features
This car drives like there is a V-8 with plenty of power to spare! I owned a 2004 M-Class prior to purchasing this sedan, and the navigation system is much better.
Suggested Improvements
Put this same engine in the M-Class!

New Mercedes diesel
Vehicle
2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E320 CDI 4dr Sedan (3.2L 6cyl Turbodiesel 5A)
Review
I just bought the new E320 Bluetek. I replaced an E55 Kompressor, so the acceleration is down of course, the milage is double and power is enough. I drove last years 320 CDI, it's straight 6 was a little less noisey, you can tell this is a diesel when idling. Overall a beautiful car.
