2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E320 CDI 4dr Sedan (3.2L 6cyl Turbodiesel 5A)

Review

The E320 CDI is top notch and well worth the 50G+ price tag. Acceleration is smooth and effortless, the interior is attractive, quiet, and comfortable. It is literally a pleasure to drive back and forth to work. If the power, ride, and handling don't lift your spirits, the sound system surely will. This car has become my private decompression chamber. I look forward to driving it each and every day. It has that quality of ride and handling only the Germans seem able to pull off - firm yet compliant, and tight yet not punishing or noisy. It's as though the bad elements arising from the road are edited out, yet you're still left with outstanding feel and handling.

Favorite Features

The engine, of course, is my favorite feature (the torque!). The auxiliary heating that comes with the CDI engine puts out warmth within seconds of starting the car. I did not expect this as a positive aspect of owning the diesel. It's a great feature if you encounter freezing Winters, like I do.

Suggested Improvements

Plain Jane styling, particularly the side view, still needs to come up a notch. A good-looking car, but not particularly striking or beautiful. It needs more character infused into its looks. The stock wheels are also uninteresting - especially for a car with this heritage and price.

Review

I dearly love the car, if I can keep it out of the shop. It is the small things, like keyless go has given me fits (three service visits). Now the steering wheel up and down module is out (6 hours of labor). Other small things have gone out. I love the power, the economy of fuel, Sirius radio, GPS, and comfort, but overall quality stinks.

Favorite Features

Power, fuel economy, Sirius radio, GPS

Better quality of electronic components.

2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 4MATIC 4dr Sedan AWD (3.5L 6cyl 5A)

Review

I got this car in Feb 2005 - one of the first 2006 E350s to come off the boat in America. I had held off choosing between the 2005 model year E320 and E500 because I felt that there must be a better solution with more horsepower than the E320 but less cost than the E500. Sure enough, waiting one model year was worth it, because the E350 hits that sweet spot right between the old E320 and the E500.

Favorite Features

Built-in phone system that downloads phone book to dash computer while, great sound system, glass roof in both front and back of cabin. Pressing the gas pedal is quite fun as well.

Suggested Improvements

Smoother shifting from the 4MATIC transmission would be nice - sometimes it feels just a wee bit clunky.

Review

Bought the E320 CDI to replace 04 BMW 530i. The difference in quality are amazing, for a $50k+ car the BMW is cheap and tacky inside. MB feels like it costs a lot more. Fuel consumption made me get the diesel, after test- driving both the gas and the diesel. The torque is stunning. Averaging 33mpg combined so far.

Favorite Features

Quality, equipment, fuel consumption

Suggested Improvements

Cruise control adjustment in 5mph increments - only thing I miss from my BMW.

This car handles better than my previous E 500 (2003). The power is virtually the same below 60 mph and it feels more responsive in spite of its' AWD. I also have an S 500 and this car is more fun to drive. I road tested the new GS AWD and the M35 of Lexus and Infiniti and this car was the winner.

This car offers a great ride coupled with outstanding fuel economy, good looks, and a social conscience. Sat, Nav, sound system are all top quality. Worth every penny!

Favorite Features

Keyless Go is a real convenience. You just come and go without fishing for your keys, and you start up and stop at the touch of a button!

Suggested Improvements

More storage space in the center consol.

Review

Great build quality, interior layout and handling. Quiet engine, as well as wind noise at high speed due to high tech diesel and .27 drag coef. Handling is best I've seen in a 4000lb sedan with road tests give it a .84 skid pad rating.. With 17" 245/45 wheels/tires it almost handles like a sports car. I am getting over 40 mpg consistently at speed over 70mph in freeway milage.. amazing.

Favorite Features

Diesel Engine COMAND w/Nav Harmon Kardon 430 watt stereo German handling

Suggested Improvements

More standard features.. such as leather, and sunroof!

Review

The power and sophistication of this diesel motor must be experienced to be believed. Why M-B does not offer this motor in more body styles is beyond me.

Favorite Features

Power, style and fuel economy. I got 39.1 mpg on a 300 mile trip @ 70mph+ and have been getting 29-30 mpg in suburban driving.

Suggested Improvements

If they put this diesel or the new Euro diesel in an ML or E wagon with AWD. I will buy another to go with the sedan.

This car is the best highway cruiser I ever had. After 53 cars, itÂ’s smooth and except for tire noise it is very quiet. The tire noise will be fixed with non high energy tires. My mpg is 30. The suspension is controlled but stable and conforming without being hard or soft.

Favorite Features

Power and torque

Suggested Improvements

Less tire noise. Add more power

Review

The CDI at 34 mpg on my last 3600 mile road trip can't be beat. I do miss a middle armrest but the distronic seats make up for it. The car is fast. I do find the Harmon Kardon radio a tad less bass capable than I like

Favorite Features

Diesel

Suggested Improvements

Better high end stereo. I'd use Bose like in my CLK with subwoofer and a better middle arm rest
