I have owned a 96 and a 2001 E320 and could never get more than 30K out of the pads and sometimes could get two pad sets out of the rotors, but not always. MB uses very soft pad and rotor material so that they wear away quickly and keep the heat build up to a minimum to prevent brake fade. Forget the dealer, go to your nearest trustworthy independent garage and get the same oil change done for well UNDER $100.. I"ve been bringing my 2001 E320 to a mechanic I've used for 15 years for all my cars once they are out of warranty and he charges me $70 for the oil and filter and resets the FSS at no charge. I recently traded in my 2001 E320 4MATIC wagon for a 2007 E350 Wagon. The 2001 E320 was a great family car and the pick-up was very exceptional for 4000lbs car. I don't know how much oil the in-line 6 engine held back in 92. But the V-6 3.2 and V-8 4.3 hold about 8.5 quarts. Mercedes switched to Synthetic in a panic in 2001-2002 because the regular oil was not able to go to 10-15K that FSS was saying was the time to change the oil. The oil change in E-class is very easy. My wife drives a 2001 E 320. She only has about 40,000 miles on it. We have a Platinum Policy from Warranty Warehouse. They claim it's as good as a factory warranty. Problem #1 They won't pay the labor rate at a Mercedes Dealership. The pay scale they use is something that may cover a PEP Boys repair shop. They also nickle and dime you on small things. I just changed the anti freeze in my 2001 E430 with 90K miles. The MB coolant has such a faint pink color to it, it is hard to see in the expansion tank where the level is. Does any one really think that the engine/gaskets will be damaged if the system is completely is flushed out of MB coolant, and latest version of Prestone coolant is used? If you're happy with the car, you got a good deal. I just purchased a 2002 E430 4matic special edition (whatever that means) if anyone knows, I'd love to hear what it is. I think it might mean the interior wood or something is a different color.
