2006 Dodge Durango Limited 4dr SUV (4.7L 8cyl 5A)

Review

I have had this vehicle for 2 years and have taken many long trips and done quite a bit of towing. When driven conservatively, I experienced 25 mpg on a trip from NY to Vermont! It is an amazing vehicle and has been very reliable. I have had very few issues with the vehicle and the only disappointing factor is the rapid depreciation. I picked it up when it was 4 months old with 4000 miles for 20k, so I'm in a better situation than most who purchased these vehicles new, but based off my ownership experience and total and complete satisfaction, I would recommend a Durango to anyone looking for the extra space and ability to tow.

Favorite Features

Comfort, very quiet, plenty of power, exceptional fuel mileage considering the weight and power, navigation, bluetooth, heated seats, power tailgate, tough looks, top notch paint job and the list goes on!

Suggested Improvements

A little more legroom for the second row, a close button on the tailgate for the power feature, heated second row seats, a light to let you know when the engine switches over to 4 cylinder mode

Review

2006 SLT HEMI Gunmetal gray, I bought this vehicle used with around 30.000 miles on it and can't get over how fantastic it is, The original purchaser ordered many upgrades like leather etc. It's fast, has great mileage and it handles better than any SUV I've owned and I've owned them all, It is by far THE best bargain in the class. I do feel the interior is kind of "low- tech" but still looks good and classy.

Favorite Features

Style, Power, Mileage, handling, usefulness

Suggested Improvements

1.)Stupid plastic on edge of front seats near door (seat hinge) are allready broken. 2.)A/C sucks (weak) 3.) I get a really bad whistle on drivers side door when at freeway speeds and the natural wind is coming from pass side (This one makes me mad, I'm going to the dealer on these issues.

Review

My 2006 Dodge Durango is a vast improvement over my 2001 Durango: the ride is MUCH smoother, it has more power, and the seats are nicer. The drawbacks are: cheaper carpet which is easily marred, plastic pieces on the seats pop off randomly, the 2nd row seat belts are difficult for kids old enough (8, 10) to take off their seat belts, the gap between the front seats and the middle console is no man's land, where almost anything can fall through, AND the number one strange feature - THE RADIO LOUDLY CRACKLES AND POPS WHEN IT ISN'T EVEN ON! Maybe it's SIRIUS trying to break through since I didn't re-up? Dealership has no clue and offered no remedy.

Favorite Features

Power, safety, comfort

Suggested Improvements

Fix the radio so that it doesn't randomly crackle and pop, very distracting because it is very loud. Make front seats larger so that things don't fall between the console and the seats. Move change holder back where it was. Put in better carpet, like what was in my 2001. More cup holders on 3rd row

Review

My only issue with the Dodge Durango is that i cannot get my infant car seat to fit properly when rear facing... even if I move the passenger seat all the way forward (so no one can sit in the passenger seat if this is done). Not impressed at all that I bought an SUV (family oriented vehicle) and I cannot even safely transport my child). What a waste of money.

Favorite Features

All the bells and whistles

Suggested Improvements

More room between front and 2nd row seating to accommodate rear facing car seats properly.

Review

My major complaint is all electrical. I have now had my 06 Durango in the shop twice for electrical issues. Radio turns down by itself, windshield wipers come on by themselves, tranny not shifting into gear, lights will flash when the car is not even on, ABS light coming on for no reason. Other than this I am satisfied.

Favorite Features

Hemi, third row seating, leather, t.v.

Suggested Improvements

Cupholders on both sides of vehicle in the 3rd row and speakers in the 3rd row. Kinda hard for the kids to hear all the way back there.

I got rid of my anemic performing 4.7 V- 8 Dakota that wouldn't tow worth a hoot, got a Hemi that gets better gas mileage (multi displacement technology) and tows great.

Favorite Features

The Hemimotor and all the creature comforts of the limited package.

Suggested Improvements

Would like to see a dual zone climate control.

Review

The truck is pragmatic for large families. Handling, agility, speed etc etc is all comporable to it's competition. The Hemi would be the only outstanding characteristic above other trucks of it's class. I have owned two and have a family of 5 so, I know and appreciate the value the Durango, but objectively, there is nothing spectacular for consumer reviews. If you like the the cosmetics and are planning to keep it for the life of the loan, then you will get your money's worth. If you like to trade every two years you will be disappointed with ground truth trade in value of this depreciating asset.

Favorite Features

Size. Wife, three kids, two dogs and luggage for a week is no problem.

Suggested Improvements

Lower the price or stop giving rebates. Depreciates way too fast because of rebates.

Review

This is the 2nd SUV that I have owned. The Durango is a very well-built, durable vehicle. I see myself owning this vehicle for at least 8-10 years. The only complaint that I have is that it seems like there is a very minute exhaust leak sound coming from that general vacinity. I took it to the dealership, but after they replaced the exhaust manifold, it seems like I can still hear it. The sound is very slight. If you're not listening for it, you really can't hear it.

Favorite Features

Suggested Improvements

Stronger plastic seat belt moldings for the bottom of the driver and passenger seats. Also, the 3rd row could use another cup holder on the right side.

Review

Best vehicle on the market for a family of 4 to 6 kids. Car seats fit great. Fun on the highway and off the highway. Mileage reasonable for the power. Ride is superb. Cornering is solid. Has and incredibly tight turning radius and is easy to park even for inexperienced drivers. The look of the vehicle is stunning in with the metallic black paint job. Roomy interior for tall people. Cargo room is breathtaking. Dodge made a mistake. The vehicle should be priced $10K more for something that rivals the drivability of a Lexus, Cadillac, or a BMW SUV. And oh by the way, the Durango can tow where these upscale SUV's can't.

Favorite Features

Get the Hemi. Get the running boards. The All Wheel Drive system is flawless in the snow. The electronic engagement is silent and you are driving securely at all times. Anti- lock brakes bring this heavy vehicle to a stop in a absolutely controlled smooth stop.

Exceptional features minus the bling. As a 6'4 Mr.Mom, I can comfortably haul our kids or sheets of drywall without missing a beat! I get 14mpg in the city and about 19-20mpg on the highway. Our Durango is a pleasure to drive. Steering is smooth and responsive. The interior is quiet. By the way, on the freeway the Hemi is the real deal! When you need to change lanes it goes into warp speed although the driver always feels a sense of being in total control.

Favorite Features

Navigation system, handsfree phone, DVD, and Hemi.

Suggested Improvements

Materials could be more refined.Less hard, monochrome plastic.
