I signed up for this site just to reply to this thread. I also have a CTS (2004) with a 3.6l motor. I experience the exact same symptoms as the original poster. I started the car one day and it made a strange noise, went to check the oil and it wasn't on the stick. I put 2 quarts in and took it to the dealer. The dealer says they cannot find an oil leak. My car has been in the shop since 10-31-07. It took Cadillac 2 months to have an engineer come out and check it out, after the mechanic replaced all sorts of things in the engine with nothing helping. It was idiling really weird and you could see it in the rpm gauge, they had no clue what the problem was, so this engineer had them do a cylinder leak down test, well.... ... Read More...

Thanks for the heads-up. I'm a current BMW owner, with the CTS on my short list. I've been looking at the car for months, and one thing I took note of, was a sales manager at my local Caddy dealership, during his pitch to me early last fall, strongly assured me that Cadillac would NOT be placing the new CTS in rental fleets of any kind. Looking to go from a compact to mid-size sedan. Also looking at 5 series & E Class. I am not sure what dimension you consider important in the decision to go from a compact to mid size sedan, but the fact that the CTS is an inch narrower in rear seat/shoulder width than a BMW 3-series and 3 inches narrower than a 5 series would certainly be a deal killer for me, no matter ... Took my 2004 Cadillac cts to the dealer today. To make a long story short.. The Cadillac dealer service department told me today. The oil life monitor is a bad tool to use when deciding oil changing intervals. I had my oil changed 5000 miles ago. Oil life monitor indicated oil life 69%.
