Overall

More versatile than the smallish X3, the BMW X5 offers a variety of engine options in a larger overall package and still retains its inherent BMW DNA. As popular as this SUV is, expect an improved all-new X5 in 2007.

Dynamics

Still one of the best handling SUVs on the market. A choice of powerful engines are available.

Comfort

Ride is on the hard side. Interior space is sufficient up front, but more traditional SUVs can offer more room.

Function

It has a lot of features, but some of the controls are hard to decipher. There isn't much cargo space behind the second row, and no third row is available.

Design/Build Quality

This body shape has been around for awhile, but it still looks good.
