Re: 2004 X5 burns [sherig]
My wife's 2004 X5 caught fire last week for what I believe to be the exact same reason. The front right turn-signal was stuck on and my wife said that she noticed a burning smell. She parked the car, and went into her office. Within 30 minutes, the underside of the dash was on fire. Fortunately, the fire dept. got to it before the fire spread. Sometime within the last ... Engine Problems? Please help
Hi i have an x5 4.4i, 2004. I noticed a couple of days ago that the gas comsumption has significantly gotten worse, as i was using up almost a quarter of a tank in a day (around 30-40 miles of driving) and usually i can get like 400-450 from a tank. (and it wasnt like i was flooring it the whole time either) Then, when i went to fill it up yesterday, i was expecting to see a ... Read More...

Re: 08 X5 4.8 in So Cal [bmlexus]
I ran the gamut - A4 Avants (wagon) - 2.0T, S4 -- the 2.0T is a nice little car, but underpowered. The S4 version is very fast for a wagon. Audi's are nice cars, with great interiors, but the handling is not as good as BMWs in my opinion. The lease packages are terrible too. My local Audi dealer quoted me around 800/mo. with tax, no money down, on a MSRP 41,000 A4 Avant and ... Read More...
2004 X5 burns
Has anyone any knowledge of fires in a 2004 X5? (or other years/models) I had the LCM Module replaced twice within weeks to correct lights not working after strong burning smell. Service report says "Internal short circuit in lamp control module". About 2 weeks after the second replacement - the car caught fire with the engine off and key out as well as lights off. ... Re: MDX vs X5 [chrism124]
NHman, I had a 2004 BMW 330 convertible and almost bought the new 335i convertible when it came out last spring but ended up with a 750i, an entirely different animal. In my opinion, in the entire Acura lineup, the MDX is the only one that comes close or equal to a BMW in the same class in terms of balance of comfort and driving dynamics. The MDX's 3rd row seat is also more ... Read More...
2004 X5 3.0d Turbo Problem
Please does anyone out there know if there is meant to be a check you can do on your turbo. Mine has recently blown and when I asked what had caused it to go I received a reply of "wear and tear" which is understandable. When I questioned them that my car had just been in for a service why was the turbo not checked, the reply was "we do not check turbo's, we wait for them to ... Read More...

Re: cormar [anon3]
The 4.8i should pretty much stay the same (maybe a 10 hp increase) So that means they will not replace the current 4.8 naturally aspirated with a twin turbo ? I am not an car or an engine expert but IMO that naturally asp seems better for the engine than all the turbo twin turbo super charged etc etc.. I read abt your x5 and 525x experience really surprised to read that ... Read More...
Re: cormar [bmlexus]
As a side note on the "M" edition X5, you are right that it has the same engine as the 4.8i (350hp in the U.S.). As in the previous X5, BMW eventually will offer 3 engine choices. In the previous model, you could buy the X5 3.0 (260 hp inline 6), 4.4i (315 hp V8) and the 4.8is (355 hp V8). The current 4.8i (350 hp V8) is the top choice until 2009 or early model year 2010 when ... Read More...

NHman, I had a 2004 BMW 330 convertible and almost bought the new 335i convertible when it came out last spring but ended up with a 750i, an entirely different animal.
