Problems with my BMW X5 left rear window
I have a 2002 BMW X5 3.0i and I am having problems with it lately, first was the thermostat, then the sawy bar links, the front door actuator and carrier (both broken), now the rear left window motor and regulator are broken, finally now I am hearing a noise that is coming like form the brake pads or brakes. This sound is like two metals squeezing or rubing each other. ... Read More...
Re: May '07 Car and Driver Comparison [chrism124]
NHman, that is frustrating about the bluetooth, what is wrong with Volvo? Reminds me of the add-on CD changers with the little gizmos that you velcroed to your dashboard, lol... I can't believe that Volvo would totally overlook such an important feature, especially when it's not just a convenience but a safety matter, at least IMHO, lol... Sounds like you got ... Re: $630 vs. $799 [rezf]
rezf, I am starting not to trust this entire process, including information obtained here. This is not my first lease, not even my first X5 lease. This will be my 3rd. When the X5 was first introduced it was a hot selling car as well. Everywhere I went salespeople where say 800.00+ for an X5 3.0 series with 12/36 lease package. After rigorous negotiation I got the ... Read More...
Re: New X3 on the way. . . [nyccarguy]
There was a manual 2002 X5 3.0 with SP for sale(on eBay)in the Louisville area a few months ago. I probably would have picked it up if it had been fitted with the CWP. I talked to my salesperson at Swope and he told me that he had only seen two manual X5s. One was ordered for a customer and the other was ordered by accident- thanks to a green pea who didn't know the BMW NA ordering ... Read More...
Consumer Reports & BMW X3 Reliability
Re: Consumer Reports & BMW X3 Reliability [hb3749]
Consumer Reports strikes again. I put very little faith in their reliability recommendations on any vehicle that is less than 3 years old. They don't publish the criteria/formula that they use to arrive at the "not recommended" reliability rating and there are glaring flaws in their rating methodology. For example, one annual car edition designated the 2002 ... Read More...
Re: WRONG ON THE 580K Produced Stat [cioccabmw]
To follow on what cioccabmw wrote and for people who obsess over consumer reports ratings... they calculate an average of problems per new car model across large numbers manufactured. So Porsche averages .82 problems per new vehicle. Lexus may have .9 problems. BMW may average something like 1.4 problems depending on the model. It boils down to the fact that ... Read More...
Re: Business Week Review [anon3]
A loaded MDX will cost about 20-24K less than a loaded X5. That's a significant issue for many who might be considering both vehicles. I agree with you that the latest variation of third-row seating is ridiculous and I believe they should be a no-cost option. I disagree with you that a typical "Japanese car buyer" will just pick a car off the lot with options that ... Read More...
Re: Business Week Review [justg0]
As I said in my original statement, I will trust my personal experience about BMW reliability. Since I've owned 5 X5's since 2001, I'd say my personal experience is pretty significant. Can you or the original poster can say the same? (Have you been to the factories where your cars are built? Have you taken them out on a track and run them at the limit? I have. And everyone ... Re: Business Week Review [tonymdx07]
I trust my personal experience over the anecdotal complaints of this or that person who had a bad experience with an 8 year old BMW. The fact is that newer BMWs are extremely reliable. My family has had 11 BMWs in 10 years, including 5 X5's. With the exception of my 2002 745i, they have all been extremely reliable. None of my X5's has ever gone back to the dealer for warranty ...
